Sunday Oct 4

Our first day on the Royal Scottish Tour. The day started out with a quick swim, for Jonathan, a buffet breakfast, and onto the coach for the ride to Ayrshire  and the Robbie Burns Centre, museum and birthplace. Getting away from the hotel and out of Glasgow proved to be a wee bit of a problem. There is a big race going on today, and many of the roads are either closed or restricted. One road we went down came to a roundabout and all the roads out of it were closed, except the one we came down! After several attempts on other roads we were finally stopped by the police who, after explaining our predicament, provided a police escort for us through some closed-off sections and got us back on track. After our visit to the Robbie Burns cottage, museum and old 'kirk', it was back on the bus.
Robbie Burns Cottage
Off to Culzean Castle and Park. Magnificent old building with some interesting and unusual features, one of them being the formal oval staircase and the wall display made from muskets, swords and other armaments in the entranceway.

Deb found the old bookshop and a good thing as she had just finished reading one book and was eager to find more reading matter. Also, the bookshop was the only warm spot we had found for a while, so she lingered while Jonathan found a pathway down to the beach and went for a walk as the tide was out. Upon returning from the beach, he went looking for Deb and got somewhat sidetracking by an older Scottish couple with 2 Golden Retrievers....not surprised are you!?!?
